Ma Dai stream is a big stream in Ma On Shan which runs from Ma On Shan down to Tai Shui Hang. It is mainly famous for its clear blue water and countless pools.
Overview
Ma Dai Stream in Tai Shui Hang which basically means a big stream of Ma On Shan. One thing which I felt while at the stream was it reminds me of Kawasan Falls of Cebu, Philippines.
How to get to Ma Dai Stream
Unlike my previous destination Long Ke Wan it is very easy to reach Ma Dai Stream in Tai Shui Hang. MTR or Taxi you can choose any of the modes depending on your choice. But MTR will be more convenient and the fastest mode.
MTR
Take MTR to Tai Shui Hang on Tuen Ma Line from your location. Exit from exit B at Tai Shui Hang station. Follow the exit subway and take the left stair at the end of the exit subway towards the Babyfarm Organic Farm.
Hiking Ma Dai Stream
From MTR Exit B continue to walk straight on the way till you see road diversion and from there take right turn and walk along the road till you reach the dam side of Ma Dai Stream. The walk will take you around 20 to 30 minutes depending on your walking speed.
From the dam side take left way along the fence. The small gate was locked so we have to climb the gate to cross it. If you also find it closed please cross by climbing it but be careful while doing so. Follow the way and you will reach the stream in just 2 minutes.
Now you can enjoy the turquoise water of the stream and start your hike up the stream. You will find many small and big pools while hiking up on the stream.
TIPS
- Please avoid visiting on Sundays & Public Holidays because it will be so packed and you cannot enjoy it properly. Try visiting on weekdays.
- Since you have to walk on the water and rocks of the river/stream so please carry shoes with extra grip and try to get waterproof shoes.
- get some extra clothes in case you need to change after swimming.
- Please take back your rubbish with you.
- Carry water and foods if you are planning to stay the whole day at the stream.
Please be careful while walking on the rocks and small stone of the river sometimes it gets slippery and you might slip. Even though there are some guide ropes along the way to give you support but you need to be very active and step your foot very precisely on rocks. There are plenty of small pools along the way up towards the biggest one. The hikes become a little bit tough as you hike up the stream.
Finally, after going through a number of pools and climbing the rocks you will reach the biggest and deepest pool on the stream. If you don’t know how to swim then please please don’t jump in this pool because it’s so deep. Some fearless guys dive from up the cliffs but it’s too risky and I will not suggest you guys to do it.
